VS MAX HD The Real Facts!!
c/p Cyphris There is much confusion as to the specs of the VS MAX HD as well as it containing 8psk and ready to handle DN HD. This is no different then when the VS9000HD and with many other FTA HD receivers first hit the market. There was much confusion and well this will get the record straight. First here are the actual specs for the VS MAX HD: Features Fully MPEG-2 & DVB-S2 Compliant Input frequency 950 ~ 2150 MHz Supports EPG,PIG Supports SCPC & MCPC from C/Ku-band 1 LNB Input Tuner with Loop Through IF Signal Tuner Symbol Rate: 1~45MS/s Fast booting & auto scan Quick channel changing Max. 4000 channels (TV & radio) programmable True color OSD & easy GUI A lot of OSD Language supported Radio channel background Display Favorite Channel List programmable Master PIN Code Function & Parental Lock Function 100-Steps Volume control Automatic Detection of Forward Error Correction Window based S/W Download Program Supported By RS232 Serial Port Set to Set Download (Main Program, Channel Data) 7 Keys on the Front Panel (Power On/Off, Channel Up/Down, Volume Up/Down, Menu, Ok) Various LNB Polarity Control * 22KHz Switching Control 3 RCA Output for Video,Audio L/R 3 RCA outputs for Component(Y, Pb,Pr) USB Host Interface S/W Upgade Supported by USB Port 9Days EPG (Electronic Program Guide) Support S/PDIF Output for Digital Audio S-VIDEO Output Zoom Function Multi Picture Technical Specifications Power Supply Type: AC 95V~240V 50Hz / 60Hz Input Voltage: AC 95V~240v 50Hz / 60Hz CPU ST40 32-bit superscalar RISC CPU @ 266 MHz 2-way set associative 16-Kbyte ICache 32-Kbyte DCache, MMU Demodulator Waveform: QPSK, 8PSK DVB-S: 2-45 Ms/s (QPSK, 10-31 Ms/s (QPSK) Convolutional Code Rate 1/2. 2/3, 3/4, 5/6/ 7/8 DVB-S2: Auto, 1/2, 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 5/6, 8/9, 9/10 (QPSK) Auto, 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 8/9, 9/10 (8PSK) Tuner & Channel Input Frequency: 950 ~ 2150MHz Input Signal Level: -25 ~ -65dBM LNB Power Supply: 13V/18V, Max 500mA with Short Circuit Protection 22KHz Tone: Frequency 22± 4KHz, Amplitude 0.7±0.2V DiSEqC: 1.0 , 1.2, USALS Compatible Video Decoder System Decoding: MPEG-2 ISO/IEC 13818 Profile and Levels: MPEG-4 AVC-H.264 HP@L4 Compressed data input: Parallel peak input rate : 160 Mbps Input Rate: Max. 15 Mbit/s Video Formats : 4:3, 16:9 Letter box (Default) Video Resolution: 1080i, 720p 480p/576p, 480i/576i Audio/Video Output Digital Output: HDMI Audio Output: 2 RCA Cinch Video Output: 1 RCA Cinch Digital Audio: 1 S/PDIF Optical S-Video: 1 S-VIDEO COMPONENT: 3 RCA Cinch USB Interface USB: USB Host Port (Max Load 200mA) Data rate: 12M bps Output Connector: F Type Female Ant. IN Connector: F Type Female 8. Serial Data Interface Signal: RS-232, Max. 115200 bps Connector Type: 9 Pin D-Sub (male) Serial Data Interface Signal: RS-232, Max. 115200 bps Connector Type: 9 Pin D-Sub (male) Memory Flash Memory: 16MB Graphic (MPEG) & System DRAM: 128MB + 64 MB EEPROM: 2K The major differences between the VS9000HD and the VS MAX HD are simply the ATSC Tuner and Main Satellite Tuner. The design is also more efficient then the 9000 and produces a lot less heat. 8PSK and Turbo 8PSK is there a difference? Yes 8PSK is pretty much a standard type of modulation used by many including many FTA satellites. This is a better modulation then the main DVB standard of QPSK. The VS MAX, 9000HD SV8000HD and pretty much all FTA HD receivers can do 8PSK right out of the box. Dont get this confused with the Turbo 8PSK that DN uses. This is what the Add-on Module does. Many have become to call it an 8PSK Module or 8PSK Add-on however they are wrong. In fact it is a Turbo 8PSK Add-ON Module and adds the ability to demodulate DN Turbo 8PSK modulation they use. Hence DN advertising AD for Turbo HD or Turbo charging your HD cause in fact they use Turbo 8PSK. Lets not confuse QPSK, 8PSK and Turbo 8PSK with Mpeg2 and Mpeg 4. Mpeg 2 and Mpeg 4 are a type of Video compression like MP3 is an audio compression but QPSK, 8PSK and Turbo 8PSK are a type of Modulation. So with the above said lets answer these common questions. Does the VS MAX Do Mpeg 4? Answer: Yes Does the VS MAX HD have DN Turbo 8PSK built in out of the box? Answer: No Does the VS MAX HD do SD and HD? Answer: Yes Can the VS MAX HD do BEV HD? Answer: Yes with 3rd party software Can the VS MAX HD do DN HD? Answer: Yes with the Add-on Turbo 8psk Module SK200 and 3rd party software
